Marcia joined BigWave Systems as Chief Business Officer in 2016 and is responsible for all business, marketing, technology and product development. She formerly served as the Chief Strategy and Sales Officer for Connect for Health Colorado, Colorado’s public exchange. Benshoof is an entrepreneur and an expert in bringing innovative solutions and technology into diverse markets; including insurance. Since 2010, Benshoof has been instrumental in acquiring over $400Mil in funding for companies focused on revolutionizing patient outcomes and the delivery of healthcare services.
She served as president of IMA Benefits, the national employee benefits division of IMA, Inc., the nation’s 13th largest privately held insurance brokerage. She developed Health Captives and other alternative financing programs, while at IMA. She also drove the transformation strategies involving human capital and total cost of risk for IMA’s clients and served as an expert on the Affordable Care Act and the implications of healthcare reform.
She’s also developed and executed legislative strategy around health care and insurance issues in Colorado and Washington, D.C.
Benshoof served as chief business officer for Pinnacol Assurance for 11 years. At Pinnacol, she was responsible for all business operations with revenues equaling $700Mil+. She oversaw all aspects of service for Pinnacol’s 60,000 customers and was instrumental in Pinnacol’s advancement to one of the nation’s highest performing worker’s compensation carriers. While at Pinnacol, Marcia founded the company’s corporate social responsibility effort, Pinnacol in Action, which earned the Points of Light Award — a Presidential honor, in 2009.
Marcia holds degrees in clinical psychology and counseling, both from the University of Northern Colorado. She holds faculty credentials from the University of Colorado Health Sciences- School of Medicine. She serves on a number of boards and committees is Board Chair of The National Sports Center for the Disabled.
Marcia was honored in 2011 by Business Insurance as one of top 25 Women-to-Watch in the U.S. and by the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce as a finalist for the Athena Award — a national professional achievement award.
